Our Impact
Throughout the past few years, ACP has been able to accomplish the following:
Repatriation of a child headed household whose parents had fled to Uganda during the Rwandan genocide took place in December 2022. With the parents passing away, these children were alone without family or support. We had been supporting these three children with school fees in the district of Kinoni for a number of years. At their wishes, we helped them to find their extended family and return home to Rwanda.
Built a safe house for a family in Mbarara district struggling with poverty, sexual exploitation and abuse. This family now has a place to stay and call their home.
Supported small community based cooperatives and income generation projects in Bushenyi and Kinoni districts such as bee-keeping, soap making and livestock rearing.
Two Friesian dairy cows were acquired to support Healing Focus Orphanage Centre in Uganda in 2022. The cows provide fresh pasteurized milk for the children and to sell in the community with proceeds plowed back into the project. The goal is to grow and continue to provide training and employment, while supporting orphans and vulnerable children on the property and across the community.
ACP has worked to provide continuous donations towards food and daily supply needs at the Healing Focus Orphanage Centre.
Healing Focus team organized a series of girl's workshops in 2022. The first at Nkuutu Memorial Senior Secondary School on 4th February 2022 attended by 923 girls and 5 female teachers focused on assessing knowledge on children’s rights, sexual reproductive rights, and effects of child marriages, family planning and child pregnancies. Two more workshops in the community of Busiiro were organized, reaching 334 girls and 458 local people. Both sessions drew participants from Busiiro and neighboring communities. The aim of the sessions was to discuss ways of protecting girls and women in the community. Both girls and local people were encouraged to continue reporting sexual abuse and violence to Healing Focus team. Key issues discussed in the girls session included; children’s rights, sexual reproductive rights, effects of child marriages, child pregnancies, family planning and good hygiene.
In December 2023, Healing Focus organized two community empowerment workshops. The first session aimed at discussing strategies of protecting children in the society during the long holiday and issues of domestic violence. Some of the issues discussed were; children rights, child protection, how to keep safe in the Ebola pandemic and effects of domestic violence among other issues. The second community empowerment workshop was held at Healing Children School, Busiiro. The aim of the workshop was to impart human rights knowledge on the promotion and protection of children rights and the simple basics of the laws concerning children. The session was held on 21st March 2023 in Busiiro village, Luuka district. About 147 people including women (140) and men (7) attended the sessions.
